‘How The West Was Read’ Series Launch

Storied Soundscapes is excited to announce the premiere of our How The West Was Read BookTube Series, which explores the history, myths and legends of the North American west. The series will cover fiction and non-fiction books from American and Canadian authors, with special focus given to highlighting stories by and about underrepresented and misrepresented groups. The goal of this new initiative is to unearth, educate and reevaluate this era of North America’s history, by elevating the traditional book review video with historical breakdowns, animation and sound design.

Episode 1 is a review of James McBride’s historical-fiction novel, THE GOOD LORD BIRD, as well as the Showtime miniseries based on the book. The story is a retelling of the misadventures of abolitionist John Brown, as seen from the perspective of twelve year old Henry “Onion” Shackleford. The humour with which McBride executes the story is a pleasant surprise, given the subject matter is Brown’s fight to end slavery in the U.S during the 1850s.

We hope you’ll mosey on over to our YouTube channel to watch the full review video, and subscribe for this literary expedition!
